Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Connie came to us, young, and very frustrated. She tried a traditional GED "class"; however, she felt lost and needed individualized instruction. Also, she had a goal of earning her GED and beginning cosmetology school. She researched school and obtained a preliminary acceptance. The only obstacle holding her back was not having her GED. Connie also struggled financially because she lacked a high school equivalency degree/diploma. Although Connie worked, in fact, juggling two jobs, the wages were minimal. Connie worked with the Adams County Literacy Council. Over the next 9 months, Connie was diligent in her studies. One by one, Connie took her GED tests. We were able to pay $6 per official practice test for Connie to indicate her likeliness to pass each test. We spent $24 on official practice tests for Connie. Also, because she was financially insecure, yet always tried her best and arrived to class on time, we were able to offer Connie $120 in testing scholarships. (Each GED test subject is $30. There are 4 tests.) I am very happy to report that Connie took and passed her last GED test and has been officially awarded a High School Equivalency Degree/Diploma. Connie has also pursued Cosmetology school. Connie is an Adams County, PA resident.
