Program Overview

The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization established in 1994 to provide culturally and linguistically competent, trauma-informed social services. We empower immigrants and refugees with the tools they need to successfully acclimate to the world around them and to become active participants in their communities. Our theory of change identifies the family as a key focal point, so we offer integrated, holistic services across generations and at all stages of the immigration journey to encourage healthy paths to success and fulfillment. AAFSC works across four thematic priorities—Promote, Get Ready, Prevent, and Communicate—to achieve our ultimate goal of strengthening families. AAFSC promotes mental and physical wellbeing, food security, healthy relationships, and family reunification. We get our families ready to succeed, work, and lead productive lives. We prevent domestic violence, child abuse, and neglect by equipping families with the tools to succeed, offering case management services to victims of violence and cultivating healthy relationship skills in young people. AAFSC communicates the needs of the marginalized to partners and policymakers.

While we support anyone who walks through our doors, over our 25 years of experience, we have developed expertise in serving the Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (AMEMSA) immigrant and refugee communities. Our staff speak 27 languages – including Arabic, Bengali, French, Farsi, Nepali, Pashto, Punjabi, Somali, Urdu, and Wakhi – enabling us to serve populations that mainstream providers struggle to reach. As a settlement house, AAFSC is geographically embedded in the communities we serve, serving out of 12 physical locations and within clients' homes throughout New York City. We are headquartered in Brooklyn, with a second office in Queens and a third office in the Bronx. AAFSC offers on-site intervention services to survivors of domestic violence at the Family Justice Centers in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island and operate programming at our partner school, the Khalil Gibran International Academy.
