Program Overview
Kith and Kin Reads consists of community-based literacy events which focus on increasing first hand experiences with language and literacy for kith and kin providers that have participated in the Arizona Kith and Kin Project and the families and children they serve. Kith and Kin Reads event consists of hands-on activities based on Arizona State University's Leaps and Bounds Kindergarten Readiness Curriculum, story time sessions, music activities, a live animal encounter, reading areas and a wide selection of books to choose from to take home. Prior to departing, participants receive material utilized at the Kith and Kin Reads event in order to replicate the activities at home and in their child care environments.
Through guidance and role modeling of trained program staff, Kith and Kin Reads creates opportunities for kith and kin providers and their families to learn together; increasing their knowledge and understanding on how to work together to ensure their children gain the language and literacy skills necessary for kindergarten and beyond.
