Program Overview
Baby TALK's Family Literacy program is for caregivers of children birth-age 3. Both adults and children attend class in the same building three mornings per week. Children are in their own DCFS certified classroom being cared for by qualified and caring teachers. Adults attend basic education classes to improve their basic skills and prepare for the GED. Instruction is in-person with an experienced teacher who uses a variety of teaching methods each class period such as videos, hands-on activities, group lessons, and computer programs. In addition to adult education, adults also attend parenting classes each week. Adults and children experience parent-child interaction time and receive library instruction as well as home-visiting services. Baby TALK partners with Richland Community College and Decatur Public Library to provide this family-centered program.
