Program Overview
We serve English-language-learner immigrants from all around Greater Boston at two BCNC sites: our Boston Chinatown site (listed here) and BCNC Quincy, 1458 Hancock St., Quincy 02169. Classes teach English, study skills, knowledge of American culture, and other skills that help students go on to college and job training, get jobs, become U.S. citizens, feel part of their community, and support their families in daily life in the U.S. Classes are beginner to advanced ESOL levels, and are taught in English only.
English classes require three days of attendance each week, Tues-Thurs mornings 10:00-12:30 or evenings 6:00-8:30. In our hybrid setup, Tuesday and Thursday classes are onsite (in classroom), Wednesday classes are remote (on Zoom). Students will also have homework of about 2.5 hours per week outside of class time. Classes run September-June each year. Students may also be admitted in January and April if seats are available. Most of our classes have waitlists.
Students enrolled in classes may also have individual tutoring (free of charge, through volunteers) outside of regular class time.
Citizenship preparation classes are held on a different schedule; call for details.
