Student and Volunteer Success Stories

In January, a new participant joined our program. Due to a recent separation from an abusive spouse, Candy was living at the local homeless shelter with no job, no ID, and no viable prospects. She had been a homemaker for most of her life, which left her lacking job skills and references. In addition to her educational challenges, she had long-term health issues that were an additional challenge. Also, she desperately needed glasses.

Candy heard about CWJC from other residents at the homeless shelter and she chose to join our program. She applied herself to the coursework, and with the help of mentors and tutors, she completed most of our requirements. We are excited to report that through the help of our program Candace was able to gain computer skills, brush up on her educational requirements, replace her ID, and find work. Candace currently serves as a Special Ed Instructional Aide for our local school, and she has her own apartment now.
