Program Overview
This program at seven elementary schools provides a series of workshops for parents of kindergarten and first graders to give them strategies to help them while reading with their children at home. Parents and children do side-by-side activities to promote proper reading habits during the workshops. Parents also learn how to choose reading-level appropriate books for their child, and students receive books for reading at home. More than 60% of our students have no books to read at home, and studies show that the more time spent reading, the more successful students are throughout their lives. This program can help parents feel comfortable in the school setting, especially the many bilingual families in our district.Cost Info
