Program Overview

At One Place we are dedicated to providing access to books and resources that support language and literacy development and establish a generation of readers. There are only 2,000 days between the time a baby is born and when he or she begins kindergarten. Child development during those 2,000 days is critical and provides the foundation for future learning. Early literacy activities that support brain development include reading with and to your child, talking to your child, and singing songs together.

One Place signs up children that are under 5 years old for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. With this program each child in the home under 5 years of age will receive a free book mailed to their home every month until their 5th birthday.

One Place collaborates with county parks and recreation to maintain 5 permanent Story Walks in the Park. Each park receives a new story every month. This helps promote literacy, physical activity, and being in nature.

One Place supports over 55 Little Free Libraries where the community can take a book, share a book. Book drives are coordinated annually in collaboration with local business such as banks, restaurants, realtors, schools, and early learning centers.
