Program Overview
SSFAC has been serving immigrant and refugee families in Greater Toledo through social services and meeting basic needs since 2011. Through experiences with client families, SSFAC understands the need to create a unique holistic program that would assist both students and their families. The SSFAC Family Education Program (FEP) will provide students with the same opportunities as their peers in having assistance with homework from English speaking helpers as well as providing their families with English communication classes at the same time. The SSFAC FEP will also provide these families with social opportunities with native English speaking volunteers and student peer helpers from the Toledo community.
Student and Volunteer Success Stories
In May, 2018, one of the children who participates in the Student Homework Help (SHH) sessions from our Family Education Plan (FEP) Program, came to me and he was very proud to show me an Honor Roll Certificate that he received from his school. This child is a Syrian refugee who came to the US about two years ago and did not speak any English when he arrived. We are very proud that our program has been changing families' lives.
