Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Eric was a good student who loved high school. But, when his mother suffered a debilitating stroke, his life changed dramatically. After that, Eric had to spend a lot more time helping out at home, and he also had to go to work full-time to make up for his family's lost income. Although his school work suffered, Eric stuck it out until the end of his senior year when he was told that he was 1 ½ credits short of graduating with his class.

It wasn't until many years later when Eric had a family of his own that he decided to earn a GED. He discovered the GED Bootcamp through an online search, and decided to enroll this past fall. At the time, Eric was working all night at Bosch-Rexroth and also taking care of his two young sons during the day while his wife worked for the post office. Adding GED Boot Camp classes to his schedule meant he often got only 2 to 3 hours of sleep. Not surprisingly, he says the hardest thing for him about earning a GED was staying awake! He credits his wife and his sister for encouraging him and helping him to keep studying despite his fatigue.

Eric has had more time to sleep since January when he passed his final GED test. However, he's not one to rest on his laurels. He's noticed there are a lot of bugs in the software he uses at work, so he'll be pursuing an online degree in computer programming beginning this fall.
