All learning programs are free. We encourage parents/guardians to join in on the courses, so they are able to assist the child at home.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

I remember the first time I saw Mr. D. He was painting lines for a basketball court at my neighborhood park. Where I'm from many people don't come out and show mad love like that. Then, another time I over heard some people I went to school with talking about how this man is taking them to a STEM program at a local university. To find out it was Mr. D. I begged my mom to let me go and she kept saying no. Then finally I begged enough she let me go. One day Mr. D took us out to eat and he pulled me to the side and said "man, I notice your shoes keep coming untied. You ever tried doing the bunny ears." Mr. D could have laughed when I told him I didn't know how to tie my shoe laces. In stead he told me a better way, then later showed me how to tie my laces. What I didn't say at that time to Mr. D is that when I was 5 my father passed away and my mom was left to be a single mom, raising me and 5 of my other siblings. My mom didn't realize I still needed her as she suffered from depression of losing my dad. But, Mr. D, I thank you for all that you have taught me. Who knew a 17 year old would finally learn how to tie his shoe and not feel embarrassed, instead, feel good about it.
