Program Overview
Description:
Hi-Set stands for "High School Equivalency Test" and is a standardized high school equivalency test for adults. The HiSET was chosen by the Missouri State Department of Education to replace the GED (General Education Degree) exam in January of 2014. The program is designed to be flexible for participants and adaptable to their needs.
Enrollment:
Students sign up by calling or scheduling a meeting with the Director. They begin by receiving a test to determine their baseline and having a one on one meeting with the Director to determine their schedule and timeline for their studies. This program uses a strengths-based approach that has been designed to help every person who wants to earn their HiSET/GED be able to succeed by meeting them where they are at. TDLC provides workbooks, references books, and online resources for learning that can be used on-site, and scholarships for testing costs. Workbooks are meant to be reused by multiple students, and notes and test answers should be taken in a separate notebook.
The Difference:
Thomas Dunn Learning Center's HiSET program differs from traditional HiSET/GED programs in the sense that the Thomas Dunn Learning Center HiSET director provides individuals instruction to meet the unique needs of the students
entering the program.

Cost Info
Instruction is FREE. There is a fee for exams, however, Thomas Dunn Learning Center offers scholarships to cover testing fees for those who stay in the program and continue to progress.Student and Volunteer Success Stories
Here is what a recent graduate right before finishing her last test had to say about our program!
"Thomas Dunn Learning Center is important to me because…Where do I begin? Thomas Dunn is more than important to me; it has changed my life. I am one test away from achieving my HiSET and after I receive it, I can go on to gaining the type of employment I was limited to otherwise. I have been to other programs to help me obtain HiSET but did not stick with it. The reason is that Thomas Dunn Learning Center gave me one on one attention. I received tutoring and much-needed help that I did not get anywhere else. Thomas Dunn is a major staple in the community, and it is very much needed for the youth who need changes in their lives like me!" –Jessica.
