Program Overview
Houghton Lake Adult Education offers individuals 18 and older a chance to earn a GED. We also provide ABE (adult basic education) classes for individuals that are not quite ready to take their GED tests without some math and writing practice and review. Classes are offered 4 nights a week and free transportation, through Roscommon County Transit Authority, is offered to our students. We also offer additional events for our adult participants to explore various options open to them after they earn their GED. We have Kirtland Community College, the Armed Forces, Mid Michigan College, and MI Works come in periodically and speak with our students. If there is interest we sometimes will organize a visit to Kirtland Community College and Mid Michigan College at no cost to the student. Weekly attendance is required. Students who do not want to take the prep classes will have to pay all test costs. Students attending prep classes can earn vouchers for free tests.
If you are an adult, age 20 and older, and still want to earn your high school diploma we can help! We offer high school completion to adults who are close to meeting the State's graduation requirements.
We are an authorized Pearson VUE Testing Center with a Pearson VUE Certified Test Administrator on staff. The GED exam is made up of 4 parts - RLA (Reading Language Arts), Math, Social Studies, and Science.
