Program Overview
Journey Towards the ILHSE (formerly GED)
People of all ages and backgrounds are working towards their Illinois High School Equivalency or ILHSE in our classrooms. The diversity in age, ethnicity, and stories adds to the rich learning environment. Everyone has the same goal: to earn an ILHSE certificate. It is not an easy goal, but the students who are dedicated to their goal have left the program not only with smiles but with a new confidence that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
Student and Volunteer Success Stories
Juan came to the United States by himself when he was 15 years old. He began working immediately and looked into what documents he needed to attend High School. A manager registered Juan in a high school, but he soon realized that working 3 part-time jobs and going to school was more than he could handle. When Juan was offered a full-time position making more money, he dropped out of school his senior year.
Juan is in the Adult Secondary Education program in District 214's Adult Education & Family Literacy program. He works full-time at a popular upscale restaurant and has been with his employer for many years. Juan is working on his ILHSE and has started his own Event Planning business. Using the vouchers we provide to take he GED tests has been very helpful while he starts his own business.
