Inspiration Station started tutor twin girls in 1st grade in the spring of 2018. When the school found out we were tutoring the twins, they said "forget the twins and help their older brother in 2nd grade". So in April of 2018, we started tutoring John. and continued with the twins, Julie and Jane. They all came to the USA in July of 2017 with no English. We worked with them in April, and May and John barely passed. In the summer we tutored all three at the Salvation Army summer lunch program by borrowing the school's chromebooks and Lexia program. Lexia is an English language "rules" program, We also use XtraMath on the chromebooks. John, Julie and Jane came at 10am, worked until they took a 15 minute lunch and came back to our tutoring until 1pm. Basically they had 3 hours per day for 10 weeks in our summer program. John started 3rd grade knowing most of the multiplication facts and at 3 grade Level 8 in Lexia. The twins knew their addition and were well into subtraction beginning the 2nd grade. The twins also went into 2nd grade with a Lexia level above entry level for 2nd grade.
Fast forward: John received his "Lexia Hero" certificate (level 18) in Jan 2019 and Julie received her "Lexia Hero" certificate a week later. Jane will get her Lexia Hero: award in a few more week.
In 10 months, Inspiration Station along with the school system have worked together to bring these 3 students, who were significantly below level, up to the top of their respective classes.
