Program Overview

The JCSS Classroom Library Grant Project believes strongly in children reading highly engaging books of choice every single day in the classroom as the best way to grow as readers. A robust classroom library is the backbone of reading instruction, providing many choices at varying levels appropriate to the students' grade levels. Any teacher in the Jackson County School System may apply for the grant, and fill out a grant application. A panel of judges reviews the applications and chooses the grant recipients. Winners of the JCSS Classroom Library Grant receive $800 in brand new books, as well as $200 in book baskets/bins/supplies in which to store and display the books received. In addition, grant recipients participate in several training sessions geared towards using the library effectively with students, helping students choose just right books, and engaging every reader in the classroom.

Cost Info

For each JCSS Classroom Library Grant awarded through this program, a K-5 classroom teacher receives $800 of brand new books and $200 of supplies/book bins for organizing the books in his/her classroom.
