One-on-One Tutoring: A volunteer tutor is paired with a student and works with them weekly, at the library or another public place.
Small Group Classes: Led by trained volunteer tutors, these classes give students the opportunity to practice English conversation and vocabulary.
ELL Civics Class: Experiential learning methods are used to explore important topics like public schools & libraries, health, finance, safety, housing and government.
Literacy @ Work: Students use computers to learn about online job searches, applications, and how to create resumes.
Citizenship Class: This class prepares learners for the naturalization test and interview.
Student and Volunteer Success Stories
"Thank you to the Kenosha Literacy Council for changing my life! Before I learned English I could not understand people. Now, I am not afraid to speak with people when I go to the store, the doctor, or my children's schools. Now, I am more independent. Now my family owns our first home. If I did not take the class at the Kenosha Literacy Council, I would not have known how to buy my new home or how to open a savings account so I can save for the future. Now I am so happy." ~KLC Learner Virginia
