Program Overview
Since 1987, the Literacy Council has been here to help adults learn to read, write, and/or improve their English to assist them in achieving better literacy to improve their home, work, and community life.
Today the Literacy Council is needed more than ever. Our dedicated volunteer tutors work one-on-one with adults who come to us for literacy help. These adults come from all economic levels and demographics. Some students were not successful in high school and need help with pre-GED preparation. Some students are immigrants who want to speak English in order to communicate with their employers, their children's schoolteachers, their doctors and nurses, store clerks, and landlords.
Cost Info
One-on-one tutoring services are provided at no cost to adult students. Students are asked to pay for their textbook/workbook if financially able. Book Scholarships are given to those unable to pay for their books. Volunteers are trained for free to become Literacy Council one-on-one tutors. Ongoing support of tutors is also free.Education services
