Program Overview

Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan

County, Inc. (LVSCNY) is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization that provides a variety of free services to help adults achieve personal goals through literacy. Literacy Volunteers trains volunteer tutors who assist adults who function at low literacy levels.

The mission of LVSCNY is to foster and enhance adult and family literacy through the efforts of a corps of trained volunteer tutors who assist adults functioning at the lowest literacy levels. Further proficiency in English as a Second Language for those who desire it, is a provided services free of charge. LVSCNY serves a diverse population. There are two main classifications of students: Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language. Basic Literacy students have English as their first language but need to improve their reading and writing skills. English as a Second Language students need to improve their speaking, reading, and writing skills.
