Program Overview
The Pendergast Family Resource Center (PFRC) has classes, parent workshops, and family events for children aged birth to five before starting kindergarten. The PFRC is grant funded through a partnership between First Things First and Pendergast School District. All activities and resources are free to families. We strive to support parents/caregivers in their role as their child's first and most important teacher as we work together to prepare children for success in kindergarten and beyond.
The PFRC has three convenient locations: the Pendergast Community Center (open year-round), Sunset Ridge Elementary in Glendale and Rio Vista Elementary in Avondale (open during the school year). Adult-child interactive classes are developmentally appropriate for young children providing hands-on experiences in art, music, literacy, and physical movement. Parent workshops cover topics such as kindergarten readiness, social-emotional skills, ways to support early literacy at home, and many more. Family events include a Fall Festival with games and activities for young children, Community Baby Shower every April for expectant moms, family picnics, and more.
PFRC staff also provide referrals to community resources. Call us for confidential support and guidance. We are here to support you and your family!
