Program Overview

Philadelphia OIC operates five (5) professional certification programs, one (1) Youth Secondary Education program (High School Diploma granting), one (1) Adult High School Equivalency Preparation Program (HiSet) and a Digital Literacy program.

Mobile Opportunities Neighborhood Keyspot (MONK)

MONK is a fully operational mobile computer lab that offers free and open computer access or hotspot Internet accessibility to Philadelphians who reside in some of the most impoverished neighborhoods throughout the city. In a City of neighborhoods, the goal of the mobile lab is to meet people where they are and increase access to technology.

The MONK program will continue to enhance Philadelphia OIC's core services by helping job seekers become more competitive for employment and/or educational opportunities by improving reading levels, computer literacy skills, and HiSet certificate pass rates. Specific ways MONK helps adults achieve their goals includes:

Offering computer literacy classes focused on writing/creating a resume, searching for jobs online, spreadsheets, etc.

Aiding government and educational institutions to offer job fairs, professional development and educational conferences.

Partnering with the Philadelphia OIC's High School Equivalency program to help students continue their education

Computer Education and Training Classes

In addition to offering mobile or stationary computer lab services for residents, Philadelphia OIC offers critical computer training classes to help individuals improve their skills in this area. Workshop topics include, but are not limited to:

Introduction to Computers and Operating Systems, Programs and Applications, Wi-Fi Basics, Introduction to the Internet/Email Basics, Creating a Resume in MS Word, Finding/Applying for Jobs, And Many More…

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Student A is a returning citizen. After a time of incarceration he joined our class on 5/6/2019 and worked diligently to complete his HSE diploma. Larry received his diploma on 9/25/19.

Student B joined our program on 6/10/2019 after being told he needed to have a HS diploma to receive a promotion at his place of employment. He received his HSE diploma on 10/7/2019.
