Program Overview

Phillips Fundamental Learning Center (PFLC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children with dyslexia and reading challenges. We offer specialized services, including assessments, curriculum, tutoring, and hands-on reading programs. Our K-5 Rolph Literacy Academy provides a full curriculum, while the Andeel Teacher Literacy Institute trains educators, parents, and community members in Structured Literacy. Through our assessment center, we offer evaluations for students ages 5–18. We also provide curriculum tools—The Sound Case™, The Fundamental Case™, and The Grammar Case™—for parents and educators to use at home or in classrooms, supporting students in reading, writing, and spelling. Located in Wichita, Kansas, PFLC aims to equip all students, especially those with learning challenges, with the skills to succeed. Scholarships and grants are available for many programs.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

The Sound Case™: Curriculum

  • “I've really loved going through The Sound Case™ with Alex. He likes doing it and thinks it's fun. I have seen his confidence grow." – Alex's Mother
  • “The kids start to recognize words and remember, 'Oh, that was in our other book.' It's phenomenal how they recall the words. The other thing my students absolutely love is the extension activity at the end of each lesson. But more than just being fun is how much The Sound Case™ is actually helping the children become ready to read." – Cathy Gray, Kindergarten Teacher
  • “Emma is doing really well with The Sound Case™! I'm very happy with it. She's reading about a book a week now." – Emma's Mother

Andeel Teacher Literacy Institute: Educator and Parent Training Center

  • “I highly recommend PFLC for both teachers and students, and would love to see the curriculum they've taught me implemented by public and private schools everywhere."
  • "Such solid instruction and curriculum that meets needs, is engaging, and makes learning a joy not drudgery. Thank you to all at PFLC! I'm grateful to have been one of your "teacher" students and support your work by passing it forward."

Rolph Literacy Academy: K-5th grade whole curriculum school

  • “When you see the looks of the kids as they come in the door at Phillips Fundamental Learning Center, you know they are in the right place to learn. Their struggle with dyslexia that is a burden to other schools is turned on its head immediately. They sense they are among friends and teachers who delight in being with them. They know they can cope, meet and surpass using the natural gifts given them and unwrapped here."
  • “Fundamental Learning Center is producing super-heroes for our community. Helping these children with learning differences to embrace their talents and creative minds in an atmosphere that breeds success. They help the foundation of our society, through their students and teacher training. Thank you FLC."
