Program Overview
Success
is a GED program designed for those who have experienced no or very limited
success in other academic settings. Ongoing support services provide continuity
of relationships, facilitate graduates' transitions to post-secondary life, ad
foster success outside the program. The student development model, intermediate
progress reports and six week cycles empower students to actively engage in
their education, build upon their successes and develop and portfolio of
academic and career-related projects and skills.
We
divide the Success program into 6 week cycles. Each cycle is long enough to
explore topics in depth and build academic endurance, yet short enough for them
to see the unit of study into completion. We highlight communication skills,
technological proficiency, information gathering and critical thinking skills.
We can measure their mastery in these areas through progress reports, portfolio
development, assignments and tests.
Like
the students, our educators reflect on their teaching strategies during and
after each cycle, at weekly team meetings and through professional development,
coaching and peer observation. We will consistently review our curricular
decisions, teaching methods and assignments to ensure students' needs are met.
The
central goal of the program is for students to take ownership of their
learning, to become lifelong, self-motivated learners and becoming productive
members in their families and community.
