Program Overview

Through the R.E.A.D. My Stories program, new, age-appropriate books are ordered by participating families at no cost to them and R.E.A.D. mails the books directly to the families or delivers to partner agencies to distribute tofamilies; each book includes bilingual read-aloud tips specific to each book.

While R.E.A.D. My Stories is similar in concept to other literacy programs, R.E.A.D. has made five commitments it believes make the program unique.

Commitment to family choice. Families get to choose each month which book they want their child to receive from a list of five curated books.

Commitment to offering culturally relevant and diverse books. All children and their narratives should be reflected in books.

Commitment to offering bilingual and/or Spanish books.

Committment to helping families go beyond reading the book. Each book comes with bilingual tips and
enrichment activities.

Committment to educating families about the importance ofreading through reading playgroups, texts, and extra mailed materials.
