Program Overview

Seminole County Family Connection is a member of the Georgia Family Connection Partnership network. We began our literacy initiative many years ago with the introduction of a reading tutoring program for Pre-School and Kindergarten students enrolled in our local school system. The students come in twice a week to receive one-on-one tutoring with a local volunteer. We also sponsor an annual family literacy and game night to promote family involvement in education as well as help to provide access to books for each child to take home at this event. Additionally, we host an annual workshop for parents, Parent University, to get helpful information about education and the importance of literacy every summer before the school year begins. At this workshop, the parents also receive a backpack full of school supplies for their child. We also help support local literacy efforts by working with Ferst Foundation to provide access to books at home, help with a local golf tournament to raise funds for dictionaries for every 3rd grade student in our community, as well as many other efforts.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

"It was great being able to attend the parent workshop this morning. I have learned a lot that I believe will not only help me, but my son as well. Thank you for the backpack and supplies. [My son] just lit up with so much happiness when I brought it home." - Parent University attendee and mother of a Reading Lab student
