Program Overview
Autism R.E.C. programs are designed to be educational, informative and fun for children with Autism. Our program focuses on building effective social and communicative skills to ultimately help the children navigate social interactions, as well as prepare them to be productive members of society. To support children with Autism, we take a holistic approach by starting with family support groups to ensure that parents have the resources needed to assist their child with social development skills. While our program doesn't focus strictly on parents, we do understand that our services only work with the help of parents, licensed staff and the willingness from the children who are impacted by being diagnosed with Autism.
Our programs are facilitated by licensed speech therapists and certified teachers who serve as program instructors. The social skills program provides direct instruction and practice on social skills such as following group rules, good sportsmanship, and expressive language. Children are grouped by developmental skills and language ability. The group meets weekly and forms a cohort where the children and teens develop friendships in a safe and supportive environment, an opportunity they typically wouldn't have elsewhere. In addition, the weekly groups provide an opportunity for parents to share resources and provide support through informal groups and workshops. We believe social skill practice is crucial for our children to thrive and live a healthy life. Autism REC is an 11 month program and free of charge.
