Program Overview

HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY PREPARATION (HSE)

This program offers students who have not graduated from high school the opportunity to prepare for the General Educational Development, known as the GED equivalency diploma. There are three levels of HSE at BEOC: Beginning HSE, Pre-HSE, and HSE Preparation. Initial placement is based on admissions test scores. Previous official test scores, as well as high school performance, are also considered for placement. BEOC is an official HSE Testing Center. Students may test as soon as they complete the program.

Beginning HSE

Beginning HSE courses help students to improve their skills in reading and mathematics. Students also take a Computer Basics with Keyboarding course, which introduces the computer and basic keyboarding. Upon completion, students retest for advancement to higher levels. Course performance and previous official test scores are also considered for placement and advancement.

Pre HSE

Students improve their skills in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Upon completion, students retest to advance to HSE Prep. Course performance and previous official test scores are also considered for placement and advancement.

HSE Prep

Students improve and strengthen their skills in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies in preparation for the HSE exam. HSE Prep students take the Readiness Assessment (RA) to assess readiness for the GED exam. Course performance and previous official test scores are also considered in recommending students to take the GED. BEOC is an official HSE Testing Center. Students are able to test upon immediate completion of their program. Upon receipt of their GED diploma, students may enroll in college preparation or a career program.
