Program Overview

Since 1977, the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence has been providing hope to individuals and families in need, guiding them to recovery. We help rebuild families by giving them a safe place to live, counseling, support groups, therapy and the resources they need to survive domestic violence and sexual assault. We are committed to providing all who seek our assistance with empathy and acceptance, in the effort to empower each person to actualize a safer future. Every year we help countless families, women and men from El Paso County, Hudspeth County and Culberson County.

The Center Against Sexual and Family Violence (CASFV) confronts and prevents domestic violence and sexual assault in all its forms as an advocate for safety and justice through intervention, education and community collaboration. Incorporated in 1977, the Center Against Sexual & Family Violence (CASFV) is the only regional organization to provide comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and their families by addressing the emotional and physical needs of the domestic violence victims and their families. CASFV has built a reputation for providing quality services and programs.

Today, we continue that role as the only comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault service provider in El Paso and the largest provider on the US/Mexico border. Our services provide a wrap-around, holistic approach for survivors to increase their ability to live a life free of violence and to develop the skills to achieve economic self-sufficiency and to embrace healthy relationships. CASFV responds to the immediate needs of victims by providing emergency shelter, legal assistance, lodging, crisis intervention, counseling and therapy, employment assistance, housing assistance, transitional living, hospital accompaniment, and managing a 24 hour crisis hotline, to name a few, for survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault.

CASFV has remained unique in that it provides the only 24-hour Crisis Hotline in a 3 county area that addresses domestic violence issues. Staff and volunteers are trained in the dynamics of domestic violence and offer safety planning, crisis intervention and counseling. Callers receive some form of assistance, ranging from referrals to local agencies, counseling, and assistance on safety planning in case of emergency.

In addition to the emergency shelter services, CASFV provides numerous non-residential victim services at the Family Resource Center that include legal assistance and advocacy, support groups for both adults and children, adult and children's therapy, family support opportunities, education and outreach and referrals to other community services. Services are available to all victims of domestic violence, and free of charge.

CASFV not only meets the immediate challenges of domestic violence but also has grown as a place where families can "learn to live again" and function as a healthy family unit. To this end, CASFV addresses family needs in times of emergency and works to rebuild families by providing the needed guidance and resources to put them back on the road to a healthy recovery at its non-residential facility known as the Family Resource Center. By providing shelter, basic necessities and food, we enable clients to focus on their healing and preparing for a life free from violence.

Through our Family Resource Center we offer those on the road towards recovery the opportunity to obtain their GED, ESL Classes, Childcare, and vocational training. We understand at CASFV that one of the biggest hurdles in escaping a life of violence is obtaining and maintaining economic stability so we strive to help our clients get back on the right track. Our classes and services are offered free of charge and year round to victims of DV and SV.
