Program Overview

The HOLLA! Reading Room is located in rural Morven, North Carolina. The reading room is one of the programs offered by the HOLLA! Community Development Corporation.

The reading room project was initially developed to help improve reading proficiency among 6th grade students at the local elementary school. Since the program was initiated over three years ago; the program has expanded to help students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The program serves people who are interested in becoming more efficient in reading.

The HOLLA! Reading Room is operated year-round by volunteers as an after school program Monday through Saturday. All of the reading programs and books in the reading room have been donated by the local school system, various churches, individuals, etc.

Because of the excitement generated by the promise of The Reading Room, the program is now in the process of opening a literacy house in the middle of a challenged neighborhood, 10 miles away in Wadesboro, NC. The literacy house will offer the same services offered by The HOLLA! Reading Room.

Because our participants have found The Little Flower Reading Program to be easy and exciting to read, we have adopted this program as our literary program of choice. www.littleflowerartist.com

We are excited with the progress and interest our participants are developing in reading. To fund the program and generate interest, we sponsor an annual 5K Walk/Run for Literacy and a Read-a-thon. We also partner with the local library and several other programs in the community.
