Program Overview
Our mission is a simple one. We partner with adults in our community to provide opportunities to gain the literacy skills needed to be self-sufficient and participate fully in their role as community members, family members, and lifelong learners.
More than 36 million adults in the United States cannot read, write or do math above a third grade level.* The Literacy Project of North Idaho wants to lower that number. When adults learn to read, write, speak English, and use computers they have the power to change their lives and their communities. Gaining literacy skills allows adults to pull themselves out of poverty, find and keep sustainable employment, raise the academic success rate of their children, lower unemployment rates, and better participate in their community. Adult literacy changes lives.
