Program Overview

Memphis READ Project is a partnership with Literacy Mid-South that provides basic education for low-literate adults.

Small Learning Groups:

Adult learners on the same grade level are sometimes placed into small groups of between two and five. The group always shares common interests, whether it is a desire to attain their GED or gain a literacy-based skill. Volunteers facilitate these learning groups using innovative, collaborative learning models that make use of real-world examples and allow the students to learn at their own pace.

Individual Tutoring:
Volunteers work one-on-one with adult learners to help them attain their GED and achieve personal goals like driver's education preparation and health awareness.

Participants may join the program for a specific goal (read the bible, fill out a job application, read to their child, etc.)
