Program Overview

The Leadership Academy which is designed to prepare students to succeed in life by providing academic assistance, character development and spiritual enrichment through the students’ formative years. TLA serves 140 students in grades K-9, from 2:15pm to 6:30pm every weekday during the school year with tutoring, computer-based literacy learning, life-skills and character building lessons, positive mentorship, performing arts, field trips and recreation. In addition to homework help, character development lessons, and recreation, The Leadership Academy conducts the following academic initiatives:

· Reading Plus: Computer-based software that transforms how, what, and why students read. It prepares them to engage with complex text by developing all three dimensions of successful readers – capacity, efficiency, and motivation.

· SMART: “Where Science Meets Art,” this hands-on curriculum focuses on the integration of science and art, including options for students to participate in science experiments, coding, photography, violin, visual arts, and piano instruction. We offered 27 different extended learning opportunities last year and expect to offer more this year.
